Anonymous Proxy Server Resources
Anonymous proxy servers allow you to surf a Web site without revealing your IP address and other sensitive information to that Web site. Furthermore, many proxies will block cookies, Java, ActiveX, and other potentially dangerous content -- not to mention grant you access to sites which have banned your IP address for some reason.

These public proxies are not part of our network. Use them at your own risk.

There are three sections to this document: Web-based, Browser-based, and Tools and Info

Web-based Proxy Servers

The proxy servers listed in the following section are accessible via a Web browser without having to reconfigure the browser. Your source IP address appears to come from the proxy server itself, thereby disguising your true origin.

To use a Web-based proxy server, simply enter the URL you want to surf to, and click "Go!"  A new window will open and the page at the given URL will be loaded.

 redball.gif (924 bytes)  CGIProxy (in USA) http://www.jmarshall.com/tools/cgiproxy/
This proxy doesn't return images with Web pages, so browsing through this proxy isn't always the most functional way to travel the Web. If you want graphics-free Web surfing, this is your proxy.

 redball.gif (924 bytes) JANUS (in Germany)  http://www.rewebber.de
Janus is a great German-based anonymous proxy. The service comes in two flavors: standard HTTP redirect, and encoded URL redirect. A benefit of using Janus is that all URLs accessed through encrypted URL proxy are encrypted using RSA encryption with 768 bit keys. To use normal proxy redirection, enter a URL and click Encode. To have Janus encrypt URLs, enter a URL and click Encrypt.

NOTE: To connect to Janus using SSL, use the following form. Please note that Janus does not connect to other SSL sites, so don't enter an HTTPS URL below.

 redball.gif (924 bytes) Interfree (in USA) http://www.interfree.com
Interfree offers a paid service for anonymous Web surfing -- similar to Anonymizer's paid service, but far less sophisticated. As of May 25, 1999, the fee was $5 (U.S.) per month. Check out the details here.

Browser-based Proxy Servers

The proxy servers listed in this section are normally used by configuring your browser's connection settings to point to them -- e.g. you must enable proxy use on the browser, then enter the proxy server name and port number in your browser's proxy configuration.

For instance, to configure IE5 to use a proxy server, follow these steps: from the Tools menu Open Internet Options, select Connections, then select LAN Options. Check the box labeled "Use a proxy server," then fill in the proxy server name and the port number the proxy runs on. Now close the dialog windows, and from this point on, all your browser traffic will be routed through the defined proxy.

In addition to anonymous surfing, Junkbuster proxies are notorious for stripping out unwanted banner ads and other graphics from a Web page, and they also allow spoofing a REFERRER address (necessary for accessing some Web site's pages directly.)

Junkbuster's proxy server software runs on a variety of operating systems, including Windows 95, 98, NT, and a host of UNIX flavors. Executables are available to download and establish your own Web proxy. The following list outlines a few of the know JunkBuster proxy servers available for public access:

redball.gif (924 bytes) Magus Net Anonymous Proxy  (in USA) http://www.magusnet.com
The Magus proxy is a fairly decent public proxy server, but they ban your entire Class C subnet  completely if anyone on the planet complains about email spam or Web abuse originating from your network -- thus, some networks may find themselves unable to use Magus.

Magus supports URL chaining, so your traffic hops of several sites before reaching its destination. They also offer paid accounts for SSL access.

The public Magus proxy server is located at:

magusnet.com - port 10080
